Alexandria University Organizes an Educational Lecture on "Fourth-Generation Warfare" at the Faculty of Medicine
As part of Alexandria University’s efforts to enhance national awareness among its students, and under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, the Popular and Military Defense Forces organized on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2025, an educational lecture entitled "Fourth-Generation Warfare". The event took place at the Grand Conference Hall of the Faculty of Medicine, and was delivered by Major General (Staff) Dr. Hesham El-Helbawy, Advisor at the Military Academy for Postgraduate Studies, with the participation of Dr. Iman Youssef, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Education and Student Affairs, faculty members, and students of the faculty.
During the lecture, Major General El-Helbawy emphasized the importance of such meetings in deepening military and security awareness among young people. He explained the concept of fourth-generation warfare, outlining its objectives, characteristics, and mechanisms, noting that this type of warfare seeks to destabilize political, social, and economic systems, influence public opinion, and impose a new reality that serves the enemy's interests. He also reviewed the evolution of warfare throughout history up to modern methods, shedding light on the Egyptian state's efforts in confronting these challenges, including counter-terrorism operations, strengthening national security, combating psychological and media warfare, and addressing regional and international pressures. He affirmed that the Egyptian Armed Forces work to protect the nation’s capabilities and stability, safeguard citizens, and confront any threats to national security with high professionalism and efficiency.
Dr. Iman Youssef extended, during the lecture, a message of appreciation to the Armed Forces for their great sacrifices in protecting the homeland and defending national security. She stressed that the Egyptian people have become more aware of the magnitude of the challenges facing the state and more united behind its political leadership in preserving the country’s stability. She also encouraged students to benefit from such valuable seminars, which contribute to building their character and broadening their knowledge with credible information.
For his part, Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of Military Education at Alexandria University, highlighted the importance of organizing such awareness activities to strengthen students' national responsibility, introduce them to contemporary challenges, and familiarize them with methods of defending the state and preserving national security.
At the end of the event, a discussion session was opened with the students, who asked several questions and inquiries. Major General El-Helbawy addressed misconceptions and enhanced their understanding of contemporary threats.
Dr. Iman Youssef concluded the seminar by presenting Major General El-Helbawy with the Faculty of Medicine’s Shield in appreciation of his valuable participation.
Awareness Seminar at the Faculty of Physical Education on Occupational Health and Safety Rules in Sports Facilities at Alexandria University
Under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and the supervision of Dr. Afaf Khamis Ibrahim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Sport Sciences for Girls, in cooperation with the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit, organized an awareness seminar entitled: "Occupational Health and Safety Rules in Sports Facilities." The event was attended by Dr. Doaa El-Dardiri Abou El-Hassan, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Sabrine Atiya Mersal, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.
This seminar comes within Alexandria University's keenness to promote a culture of occupational safety and apply quality standards across its facilities, ensuring a safe environment that supports the educational process and sports activities, and achieves the highest levels of security and safety for all.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Nadia Lotfy Abdel Fattah, Professor of Sports Management and Executive Director of the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit at the faculty. She provided a specialized presentation supported by practical examples that contribute to creating a safe environment in sports facilities. At the end of the seminar, a discussion session was held, allowing participants to ask questions and further enrich the event.
Dr. Doaa El-Dardiri Abou El-Hassan, Dean of the Faculty, explained that the seminar aimed at raising awareness of occupational safety principles in sports facilities and enhancing protection against potential risks. The seminar addressed the importance of implementing occupational health and safety regulations, mechanisms for applying them within sports environments, and identifying potential risks that may face workers and facility users, as well as the necessary protection and prevention procedures. She also emphasized that the faculty will continue to organize seminars and training programs to support community awareness of safety issues and prepare qualified cadres capable of managing risks and handling emergencies professionally and in accordance with international standards.
Dr. Sabrine Atiya Mersal stressed that the faculty attaches great importance to occupational health and safety topics, noting that such events contribute to building an aware university community capable of protecting its human resources and ensuring the safety of its facilities.
Alexandria University Faculty of Medicine Launches Comprehensive Medical Convoy to Serve the Vocational Rehabilitation Center in El-Syouf
As part of Alexandria University’s societal role in supporting the local community and serving the most vulnerable areas, and under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, the Faculty of Medicine launched an extensive medical convoy to the Vocational Rehabilitation Center in El-Syouf to provide healthcare and therapeutic services.
The convoy coincided with the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. It included participation from the Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical Research Institute, High Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Early Childhood Education, Faculty of Girls’ Physical Education, and the Rotary Club—reflecting an exemplary model of institutional cooperation and joint efforts in community service.
Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, and Rapporteur of the University’s Convoys Committee, confirmed that the convoy successfully provided comprehensive medical services to 361 cases across various specialties, including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dentistry, ENT, Orthopedics, Chest Diseases, and Dermatology. He added that all medications were provided free of charge, and 35 cases requiring advanced follow-up were referred to the Main University Hospital for further examinations and necessary treatment.
It is worth noting that organizing such convoys reaffirms the university’s humanitarian and societal mission to provide high-quality healthcare services and promote health awareness among citizens. The university continues to implement its medical convoys regularly to deliver services across different areas of the governorate.
High Institute of Public Health Celebrates World Heart Day under the Theme “Use Heart, Know Heart” (“Don’t Miss a Beat”)
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the High Institute of Public Health organized a celebration of World Heart Day under the slogan “Don’t Miss a Beat”, in cooperation with the Alexandria Health Directorate. The event was attended by Dr. Heba El-Qadi, Dean of the Institute, Dr. Zeinab Shatta, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Fahmy Charles, Head of the Occupational Health and Industrial Medicine Department, and Dr. Hanan Anwar, Deputy Director of Health, along with faculty members and health leaders.
In her speech, Dr. Heba El-Qadi explained that the world celebrates World Heart Day every year on September 29. The occasion was launched by the World Heart Federation in cooperation with the World Health Organization to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death worldwide. She noted that the event included free screening and early-detection services for citizens and staff at the institute, as part of the presidential public health initiatives “100 Million Health,” in collaboration with the Health Directorate. Screenings covered chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disorders, as well as early-detection programs for cancers such as lung, colon, bladder, and uterine cancers, in addition to initiatives supporting women’s health. A special awareness video was also launched on heart disease prevention, emphasizing the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and avoiding risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity, while promoting a healthy diet, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure and cholesterol.
For her part, Dr. Zeinab Shatta stressed that this year’s theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat”, symbolizes that the heart is not merely a vital organ but a source of life and vitality. Preserving it is a shared responsibility of both the individual and society. She added that, on the sidelines of the celebration, the institute organized a comprehensive medical convoy in front of its premises in Al-Hadra Al-Bahriya, as part of the presidential initiative “100 Days of Health,” where a group of specialized doctors provided free medical checkups and laboratory tests to a large number of local residents.
Dr. Fahmy Charles also delivered an awareness lecture, highlighting the latest World Health Organization reports which indicate that cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death globally. He emphasized that prevention is possible through committing to positive healthy habits and avoiding harmful practices that endanger heart health.
Dr. Hanan Anwar confirmed that the Alexandria Health Directorate was keen to support the event by deploying medical teams from various specialties to provide healthcare services to citizens, raise awareness of the dangers of heart disease and prevention methods, and encourage people to undergo regular checkups and adopt healthy lifestyles.
The day’s events concluded by reaffirming the pioneering role of the High Institute of Public Health in supporting awareness and early-detection initiatives, and in advancing Alexandria University’s mission of protecting human health and improving the quality of life for the Alexandrian community.
Closing Ceremony of the International Workshop at the Faculty of Fine Arts for Training Students in the Digital Documentation of Industrial Heritage in Alexandria
On behalf of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Prof. Dr. Afaf El-Oufi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, attended yesterday the closing session of the COSIMENA 2025 Winter School, organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts from 26 November to 7 December 2025.
This event comes within the framework of scientific cooperation between Alexandria University and several international partner universities, including Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus–Senftenberg, Bauhaus University Weimar in Germany, University of Sharjah, and Jordan University of Science and Technology, with full funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under the COSIMENA 2025 program.
In her speech, Prof. Dr. El-Oufi thanked the organizers and participants for the rich scientific output presented during the Winter School, affirming that Alexandria University places great importance on documenting industrial and cultural heritage, as it represents a vital pillar in strengthening identity and preserving the city’s long-standing industrial history. She also emphasized the university’s continued support for academic activities that enhance students’ skills in digital documentation and the use of modern technologies in collecting and analyzing heritage data.
On behalf of Prof. Dr. Nevine Gharib, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Prof. Dr. Amani Reda, Acting Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, highlighted the Faculty’s vital role in supporting international partnerships and adopting modern architectural documentation methods, contributing to strengthening students’ research capabilities and keeping pace with global scientific trends.
Prof. Dr. Heba Abu El-Fadl, Head of the Architecture Department, also affirmed that the department is keen to enhance academic exchange with experts and specialists from Arab and foreign universities, supporting curriculum development and enriching the educational experience of Fine Arts students, particularly in the fields of architectural documentation and industrial heritage.
In the same context, Ms. Nermeen Abdel-Aaty, Coordinator of the Center of Excellence for Academic and Research Links between Germany and the Middle East and North Africa, affiliated with DAAD, explained that the center works to create effective communication networks between universities and experts in the fields of heritage and documentation, noting that this year’s Winter School stands as a successful model of international scientific cooperation.
Dr. Merhan Demir, Coordinator of the Winter School and Lecturer at the Architecture Department, presented the historical background of the Minet El Bassal Cotton Exchange Building, which served as the main study project of the workshop. Students documented the building using advanced digital documentation techniques, including 3D scanning and digital modelling. She praised the significant contributions of Egyptian and international experts in enriching the scientific and practical content offered to the students.
During the closing session, participating students delivered presentations showcasing the results of their work in documenting the Cotton Exchange Building. Their presentations were widely appreciated for their high accuracy and quality in analysis and delivery. This was followed by an open discussion session between students and organizers, highlighting key lessons learned and future plans. The events concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
