Professor at Faculty of Fine Arts Awarded Second Place Certificate for Writing Policy Papers in “We Think for Our Country” initiative
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated Dr. Dina Wagih Iskandar, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, for winning second place certificate, in writing policy papers within the individual entries in the “We Think for Our Country... Our Ideas, Our Future: 50 Ideas initiative for a more competitive and sustainable economy", which was launched by the Public Policy Forum of the Information and Decision Support Center of the Egyptian Government, in cooperation with UNICEF, at the Al-Massa Hotel in the New Administrative Capital.
It is worth noting that this initiative emerged from the Decent Life Initiative "Hayah Karima" and lasted for four months, during which it included workshops in the Administrative Capital to write public policy papers in person and online. Dr. Dina Iskandar’s participation in the third axis was about enhancing tourism revenues in Egypt by re-utilizing rural homes to activate the role of sustainable tourism in the Egyptian countryside, proposing a strategy for accommodation systems and heritage marketing, which requires providing accurate statistics on rural tourism in addition to equipping rural homes according to the required standards (types of hotels that mimic nature), as well as adopting an innovative marketing system, and encouraging farm owners to convert their farms into integrated rural inns.
Faculty of Education and the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate Sign Cooperation Protocol
Within the framework of Alexandria University’s keenness to serve Alexandria’s educational community, and with the approval of the University Council headed by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, University President, Dr. Mohamed Anwar Farrag, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and His Eminence the Venerable Pontiff Bishop Bavli, Bishop of the East Sector and Youth of Alexandria, representing the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate, signed a joint cooperation protocol for the Faculty of Education to provide its educational services to sustain the professional development of Alexandria teachers and perform its leading role for civil society institutions.
The signing ceremony of the partnership protocol was attended by Engineer Ihab Zakaria, Senator and Coordinator of the National Development Alliance in Alexandria, Mr. Rami Naguib, Director of Bishop Bavli’s Office, Mr. Nessim George, Coordinator of Church Schools, Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education for Student Affairs, Dr. Salem Abdelrazek, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service Affairs; Ms. Aziza Shalaby, Secretary General of the Faculty, and Dr. Marwa El-Adawi, Director of the Educational Services Centre at the Faculty.
Faculty of Pharmacy organizes a sports marathon for walking and cycling entitled "Running for Green"
Under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Pharmacy, in cooperation with the students of the Scientific Society of Faculty of Pharmacy, organized a sports marathon for walking and cycling under the title "Running for Green" within the framework of the preparations of Faculty of Pharmacy and University of Alexandria for the Climate Change Conference COP27 to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November 2022.
Prof. Dr. Mervat Kassem, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, pointed out that the marathon was launched from the front of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to the Citadel of Qaitbay with the participation of about 150 individuals, and an elite of Faculty staff members, Faculty employees, and students. She explained that the organization of the marathon came with the aim of unify the students and Faculty members as one family and to encourage the students to practice sports to improve their physical and mental health, which reflects positively on their academic performance.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Sherif Rostom, Vice Dean of Community Service and Environmental Development, stated that the marathon is part of a campaign adopted by Faculty of Pharmacy entitled "Go Green" that includes several events within the framework of the state's directions for sustainability in preserving the environment and combating climate change "Prepare for Green".
At the end of the marathon, prizes and certificates of appreciation were handed over to the winners of the top three places in both the walking and cycling competitions.
Higher Institute of Public Health Organizes Marathon and Medical Convoy on World Heart Day
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Higher Institute of Public Health launched a marathon on the occasion of World Heart Day, which is being held for the second year in a row.
Dr. Heba Mahmoud El-Kady, Dean of the Institute, indicated that the marathon was organized in cooperation with the Directorate of Health Affairs, the “Healthy Hearts” Association, and the “Ana Masrawya” Foundation. She indicated that the celebration aims to support World Heart Day, and aims to achieve high awareness among the Alexandrian community, promoting tourism and sustainable engagement with the natural environment in Alexandria, and of course a greater focus on public health and sports.
Dr. Fahmy Charles, Head of the Institute’s Department of Occupational Health and Industrial Medicine, expressed his happiness at organizing an international sports marathon of this size, which confirms the university’s ability to host major sporting events in Alexandria.
It is worth noting that the marathon was followed by the organization of a medical convoy within the framework of the presidential initiative 100 Million Healths, in front of the building of the Higher Institute of Public Health, which included an elite group of distinguished doctors, and provided free examination and analysis services to a large number of residents of the Hadra El-Bahriyya area in Alexandria.
Participating in the convoy were Dr. Injy El-Ghitani, the Institute’s Vice-dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Dr. Nisreen El-Nimr, the Institute’s Vice-dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
Faculty of Specific Education Team Wins Third Place in Writing Policy Papers Competition in National Initiative for the Public Policy Forum
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated the team of the Faculty of Specific Education, Alexandria University, for winning third place in writing policy papers within the group contributions in the national initiative launched by the Public Policy Forum at the Information and Decision Support Centre of the Egyptian Government, entitled: “We Think for Our Country: Our ideas are our future... 100 ideas for a more competitive and sustainable economy.”
The policy paper of the winning team addressed the topic of “Conference Tourism: An Action Program to Promote Egyptian Conference Tourism” in terms of the features of the current situation of conference tourism in Egypt, the obstacles to its promotion, its concerned parties, its four-way analysis, and the proposed policies to maximize its foreign exchange revenues. It concluded with a set of recommendations in Areas of promoting conference tourism in Egypt.
The winning team consisted of Dr. Nagda Madi, Professor of Home Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Alexandria University, Dr. Salwa Basha, Professor of Music Education and Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Amal Karam, Professor and Head of the Educational Technology Department at the Faculty, and Dr. Iman Azmi, former Assistant Professor of Business Administration at King Saud University and PhD researcher in Educational Technology at the Faculty of Specific Education, Alexandria University.
It is worth noting that the initiative took place in stages, with several activities extending from July 2023 until the announcement of its results in person in the New Administrative Capital on Monday the 18th of December 2023. It took place within the framework of the interest of the Information and Decision Support Centre in the Egyptian Government to enhance the participation of the research community and youth in priority issues to support the decision makers in the Egyptian state.
