Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konswa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, opened yesterday, Wednesday, the seventh scientific conference of the faculty, in the presence of a number of faculty deans, Eminent Egyptian Navy men affiliated with the Naval faculty, members of parliamentary councils, faculty members, representatives of many civil society organizations, media figures, and hundreds of researchers and students.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Saeed Allam conveyed the greetings of Dr. Abdel Aziz Qanswa, President of Alexandria University, to the attendees and his wishes to everyone for a fruitful and successful conference. He praised the continued regularity of holding the college’s scientific conference every year. He also stressed the importance of studying the economic and political reality, which would provide a vision He pointed out the importance of the various recommendations that the conference could come out of research and studies related to the two axes of the economic and political conference, which in turn enhances the leading scientific and societal role of Alexandria University and confirms its position as a major house of expertise that contributes to enrichment. In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the faculty and President of the Conference, welcomed the attendees, and referred to the topic of the current (seventh) conference, which includes two inseparable axes, the first of which is the economic axis, which focuses on the problems of the twin deficits and the debt crisis in Arab economies, and the second is the political axis on the current global transformations and developments. Research in political science, and it was considered that the two axes are complementary, given that economic pressures represent one of the mechanisms of wars of the fourth and fifth generations, which include, in addition to economic mechanisms, military mechanisms, and mechanisms related to psychological warfare, black propaganda, information warfare, electronic waste, and other mechanisms of these two generations. In the same context, came the words of Dr. Al-Sayed Al-Seriti, professor of economics at the college and rapporteur of the conference, who stressed that the college’s scientific conference is a forum for presenting research and exchanging ideas and visions aimed at contributing to the discussion and solution of contemporary economic and political problems. Thus, the conference represents an enhancement of the distinguished image of the college at the prestigious University of Alexandria in The academic environment, as well as ensuring greater care for the college’s academic projects and highlighting the university’s position locally and internationally by encouraging scientific research activities in the economic and political fields that occupy the contemporary arena for the benefit of this nation and its people.
 
 
 
Yesterday's activities ended with honoring the researchers participating in the conference on its first day, and handing over shields to the session chairs and commentators.
 
 
 
 
It is worth noting that the conference concludes its work today, Thursday, April 25, 2024, with two sessions that include new research and a discussion session on the problems of the twin deficits and the debt crisis in the Arab countries.

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, witnessed today, Monday, November 11, 2024, the annual training on the use of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank in Egyptian universities, which is organized by the Supreme Council of Universities, in the Blue Hall at the Faculty of Nursing.
 
 
 
The lecture was attended by Dr. Nefertiti Zaki, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Awatef El-Sharkawy, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Alaa Gaafar, Director of the Digital Library Unit, Dr. Walid Ali, Representative of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, Dr. Mahmoud Shawky, Representative of the Digital Library at the Supreme Council of Universities, in addition to representatives of international and Arab publishing houses, a group of faculty members and researchers from various Egyptian universities, and directors of libraries of Alexandria University faculties.

In his speech, Dr. Hisham Saeed stressed the importance of benefiting from the Egyptian Knowledge Bank as a national project launched by the Egyptian government in 2016, which is a major qualitative leap in providing multiple and free knowledge sources for students, teachers, employees of Egyptian universities, researchers and the general public. He pointed out that the project, since its launch, has been one of the largest digital libraries in the world because it provides scientific, cultural and educational content available online at all times and covers a wide range of disciplines and fields such as natural sciences, technology, arts, history and other specializations.
 
 
 
 
 
Saeed added that one of the most prominent features of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank is that it provides scientific content in partnership with international institutions and major publishing houses such as Elsevier and others, which allows users to access scientific articles, research and educational references as well as multimedia such as educational videos and illustrations, which leads to enhancing education in Egypt, supporting scientific research and developing the intellectual skills of students and researchers, which enables them to access documented and modern knowledge sources that serve their research and studies. He pointed out that the Egyptian Knowledge Bank is a pioneering step towards building a knowledge-based society and creating an educational environment that supports innovation and contributes to preparing generations that possess the ability to think critically and contribute to the sustainable development of Egypt. In addition, the Knowledge Bank is considered a portal that supports many Egyptian journals in Egyptian universities, which is a pioneering step to bring these periodicals to the world.

While Dr. Nefertiti Zaki confirmed that digital libraries are the libraries of the future in light of the general trend in the world towards the electronic world and digital content, she pointed out that the importance of the digital library is due to its ability to preserve its holdings in machine-readable forms, obtain information easily, eliminate the time and space barrier, shorten distances, reduce financial costs and enable more than one person to view information at the same time without damage t,o the scientific content of the information. She also pointed out that Alexandria University’s Digital Library is one of the university’s development projects, aiming to develop the work of the library, making all scientific and research technologies available in digital form in order to integrate with learning and information institutions in higher education, under the umbrella of the digital library at the Supreme Council of Universities, to reach the dissemination of the culture of sustainability and link it to scientific research, enhance information awareness, and build a digital environment that keeps pace with scientific developments.

Dr. Alaa Gaafar pointed out that the Egyptian Knowledge Bank is an effective tool that supports the aspirations of academics, researchers, university students and library specialists in Egypt, and contributes to enriching scientific research. She stressed that the large attendance at this annual training reflects everyone's interest in the importance and role of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and the Digital Library Unit and the keenness to contribute to the development of scientific research in Egypt, especially since the workshop has been held over the past eight years, which is the age of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, one of the most important pioneering national achievements in Egypt.

The conference was attended by a group of deans of faculties and university leaders, the Director of the Naval College, the Rear Admiral of the Navy, the Director of the Institute of Naval Postgraduate Studies, naval commanders, a group of members of the Naval Salon, representatives of Al-Azhar, faculty members, representatives of several Alexandrian civil society organizations, and hundreds of researchers and students.

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Ahmed Wahban conveyed the greetings of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, to the attendees, wishing everyone a fruitful, successful, and constructive conference. He explained that the current two-day conference includes an economic track titled "Economic Challenges and Sustainable Development Goals," and a political track titled "Analysis of Emerging Phenomena in the World of Politics." This underscores the faculty's commitment to addressing issues affecting the national economy, achieving sustainable development, Egyptian national security challenges, and Egyptian foreign policy concerns. He emphasized the need for conference researchers to present serious, effective, and applicable recommendations that can be effectively invested in serving the nation and its causes.
 
 
 
Dr. Walid Qassem, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the faculty and conference rapporteur, also emphasized the faculty's commitment to holding its academic conference periodically, a tradition that reflects its commitment to keeping abreast of and analyzing political and economic developments. He emphasized the importance of the conference producing recommendations for political and economic decision-makers, affirming the faculty's role as a house of expertise in the political and economic fields.
 
 
 
 
The conference sessions included two political and economic axes, during which many topics were addressed. The political axis research discussed the development of the role of international organizations in promoting the protection and respect of human rights at the national level, international legislation and its role in managing global political phenomena, the evolving role of international alliances: a case study of NATO, political research between qualitative and quantitative methods, the role of artificial intelligence in reshaping the international system, democratic decline in the world: a case study of democratic decline in India, a study of the causes and manifestations of democratic decline in Europe, the development of diplomatic patterns in light of the global challenges of the twenty-first century, the impact of populism on democratic systems, and an analysis of the concept of populism between the North and the South. The economic axis included five research papers that addressed several topics related to explaining inflation in Egypt (2020-2025), the impact of micro-projects on the poverty rate in Egypt, and activating the role of zakat in achieving sustainable development goals (2015-2030) (the case of Egypt), towards the integration of water and food security in Algeria: sustainable strategies. To address the challenges of resource scarcity and climate change, in light of changes in the relationship between the Egyptian trade balance and inflation according to the exchange rate hypothesis (2010-2023).

As part of Alexandria University’s participation in the presidential initiative “A New Beginning for Building the Egyptian Citizen”, and under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, inaugurated today the awareness seminar entitled “The Danger of Drugs and the Role of Youth in Confrontation”, organized by the Faculty of Education at the college premises.

The seminar was delivered by Dr. Salam El-Sayed El-Arabi, Supervisor of Alexandria Governorate at the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse affiliated with the Cabinet. The event was attended by Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Salem Abdel Razek, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. El-Sayeda Mahmoud, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Lamia El-Shafie, General Coordinator of Student and Voluntary Activities at the University; along with a large number of faculty members and students.

In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim emphasized that Alexandria University attaches great importance to raising students’ awareness of the dangers of addiction and is keen to organize numerous activities aimed at spreading a culture of awareness about the risks of drug abuse. He highlighted the vital role of youth in leading awareness and prevention efforts both within and beyond the university community. He also stressed the need to change the public perception of drug users, viewing them as victims who need support and guidance to return to the right path and contribute to building the nation.

For his part, Dr. Hassan Abdeen affirmed that young people represent the real energy of society and its hope for the future. He pointed out that the Faculty of Education is committed to implementing the university’s vision of preparing an educated and enlightened generation with a well-rounded personality, through providing support, guidance, and awareness on the risks of negative behaviors such as addiction — in line with the state’s vision for building the Egyptian citizen across education, health, and development sectors.

During the seminar, Dr. Salam El-Sayed El-Arabi discussed several key topics, including: the concept and risks of narcotic substances, the dimensions of addiction problems, types of addictive substances, and the causes leading to drug use. He also reviewed national efforts in implementing the National Strategy for Combating Drugs.

The seminar witnessed remarkable interaction from students, who raised many questions and inquiries, expressing their happiness to participate and their appreciation of the seminar’s informative content. They also expressed their eagerness to take part in future activities that enrich their university

experience.
